Revelation Speaks
The book of the Bible called Revelation speaks of fantastic beasts “having two horns like a lamb and speaking like a dragon”, of making fire come down from the sky in front of a mass audience. It speaks of deceiving images of a beast coming down from heaven to earth appearing to breathe and speak, demanding worship or death.
For two thousand years the Church has grappled with making sense of these and similar Bible passages. Popular sensational books and movies like the hugely successful, "Left Behind" series, and Hal Lindsey's older book "The Late Great Planet Earth": some fictional, semi-fictional or claiming to be accurate interpretations of the Bible, all contributed to widespread skepticism and even ridicule of these biblical accounts. Technology has now made the incredible, credible.
Imagine a scenario where the world has fallen on desperate times, natural disasters, starvation, nuclear war devastation, violent anarchy and lawlessness, all priming the pump for human desperation. Sound like today? Perhaps an event like a fourth of July fireworks display where thousands of eyes gaze up at the sky or another mass gathering like the annual Muslim Hajj to Mecca: desperate crowds looking for something, maybe anything. Suddenly filling the night sky, there appears the figure of Jesus, Confucius, Mohamed, or Chinese President Xi or maybe some hideous monstrosity filling the sky with a message pre-programmed by technocrat oligarchs of the new world order. “Surrender your national pride, surrender your will, lay down your lives, and embrace the universal vision of our new savior. Far fetched? Perhaps you’ve seen that movie already and blown it off as just more fundamentalist clap trap. When will our would-be masters of the universe will roll out such technology to manipulate your thoughts. An AI god will emerge by 2042 and write its own bible. Will you worship it?
