Americans love an underdog but will turn as quickly against hypocrisy.

A Letter to Trump

Dear President Trump,

I was one of the majority of Americans who were so encouraged with your sweeping election victory. For many it offered hope for a better future for our children. These election results clearly show that the policies you advocate with regard to American greatness have stirred the imagination and hopes of every patriotic citizen.
Obviously you face a monumental task ahead in turning around the downward trajectory of our once great nation. We’re convinced that no man, not even the extraordinary Donald J. Trump and even with the support of the fine staff you’ve put together, can make America great again without the help of God.  That hope comes at a cost.  America can never be great again without integrity and generosity.
You have a historic opportunity to not only turn the country around but to become a statesman in the best tradition of our founding fathers. That cannot happen apart from a return to the moral commitments and basic values upon which we were founded. A wise preacher once identified four critical areas which define a righteous church and by way of extension, a righteous nation. He cited a stance against the sacrifice of children, a commitment to racial justice, support and economic opportunity for the poor, and sexual morality in marriage.
You have already done so much to at least attenuate the wholesale sacrifice of our children by returning abortion regulation to the states and your insistence on colorblind merit based inclusion should raise the pride of real achievement for minorities rather than the suspect incompetence of government freeloaders.  Your stand against government promotion of perverted sexuality is a tremendous encouragement to every God fearing citizen and your help in retooling the education department to allow parents to demand excellence from their schools is again, a wonderful aspiration.
With boldness and some trepidation, I would beg you to consider one suggestion with regard to compassion for the poor.  As a conservative Christian and a Texan familiar with the demographics of our area; I know so many wonderful hardworking Hispanic families, both legal immigrants and those of questionable immigration status; people who are making a tremendous contribution to our nation and economy.  As you know, many of these people of illegal status have been misled by previous administrations to believe there is a future for them in our country and many have built long term productive lives here.  Make no mistake, we have zero tolerance for the criminal element among this population and wholeheartedly support your plan of mass deportations and incarcerations. But I want to ask you: What would it take to put together an effective vetting program for those willing to submit to such a process?  How much manpower could be made available from laid off IRS investigators and other heretofore useless bureaucrats who might be retrained for this purpose?  How would such a program put to shame your boisterous Democrat detractors and take away a major issue from their arsenal of pathetic wokesim.  Such a turnaround could go a long way toward insuring success in the quickly approaching midterm elections and well beyond.   Will the Trump legacy become an unprecedented historical triumph that can truly make America great again or just another footnote in the history of unrealized promises?

Thank you for your consideration,
Bill Lami
